FAQ's related to seafood

Can I choose what seafood I receive?
The full list of species that we anticipate offering is here. If you don’t like or can’t eat certain types of seafood, you can tailor your subscription in multiple ways:

- No tiny fish: mackerel, sardines, herring and anchovies
- No Black cod, a.k.a. sablefish
- No Shark (note - our shark is sustainably caught and delicious!)
- No Bivalves: oysters, mussels, and clams
- No Crustaceans: crab, lobster and shrimp
- No Squid
- No Abalone
- No Kellet’s Whelk

Whenever one of your opt-out species is our main catch of the week, you will receive an alternate species in your delivery.  Your opt-out list can be modified at any time.

When will I know what seafood I am getting for the week?

The day before your delivery we send an email with the week’s seafood selection, recipes, the fishing boat and method, and other fun ocean-themed info for you.

  • The cost will be deducted from your account balance.

How do I get my seafood?

On your weekly seafood pick up day, you will:

- Receive a text reminder to pick up your seafood
- Bring your Get Hooked cooler bag to the pickup site you selected during sign up
- Take your portion of fish from the Get Hooked cooler, labeled with your name
- Check your name off the list from our clipboard
  • Anything you choose to purchase will be delivered with your share in the cooler

How long will my seafood keep?
- It is important to keep your seafood chilled during transport. We recommend using a small ice pack with your cooler bag.
- If the seafood feels cool to the touch, it can be considered chilled.
- Your seafood will keep for 3-5 days in the refrigerator or can then be frozen.
- Most often, your seafood was caught 1-2 days before delivery. You can’t get it any fresher than this unless you catch it yourself! Our email newsletter always includes a eat or freeze by date, and any special storage or preparation instructions.
What if I don't know what to do with the seafood I receive?
  • We provide recipes, and preparation instructions and videos in our newsletter, on our website and in print when you pick up your seafood.
  • If you are unhappy with the outcome of your seafood dish, please contact us right away and we will work with you to make up for it or suggest new recipes or techniques to try. Get Hooked is all about making sure you love your seafood, explore new recipes and expand your seafood repertoire!
Can I add on more seafood types to my delivery?
The weekly newsletter highlights extra products you can we have available to purchase in addition to your share. These may be fresh or frozen seafood, house-made seafood products or pastas, or other specialty items.
