All about Get Hooked

Get Hooked was founded by Kim Selkoe and Victoria Voss, two bad-ass women who know the value of making healthy food tasty, convenient and fun for our families. Our passion for local seafood and our shared ties to the Santa Barbara fishing community led us to this venture together.

Although Get Hooked is a for-profit company owned by Kim and Victoria, our work is centered on two mission-driven partnerships. One with Commercial Fishermen of Santa Barbara, and one with Real Good Fish CSF in Moss Landing.

A key motivation for us to create Get Hooked is to achieve increased support and visibility for CFSB, our 501 (c)3 non-profit port association. CFSB is working to ensure thriving and sustainable fisheries for our community. Get Hooked will donate a portion of our profits to CFSB annually to support the many programs and initiatives ongoing at CFSB, such as creation of a Community Fisheries Trust and the management of the Saturday Fishermen’s Market. Further, Get Hooked members are given membership to CFSB through a donation made in their name, and CFSB’s fishermen are the suppliers for Get Hooked. Kim Selkoe is the current Executive Director of CFSB and Victoria’s father Chris Voss is the President, and we believe strongly in the critical role CFSB plays to support a progressive future for California fisheries.

The seed for Get Hooked was planted when Kim connected with Alan Lovewell of Real Good Fish, a CSF in Moss Landing, at the 2017 Seafood Summit in Seattle.  Kim and Alan began a year-long conversation about how to build a network of CSFs across California and beyond that could amplify the reach of local seafood in our communities and support the long term resilience of our ports.  With funding from the USDA’s Local Food Promotion Program awarded to us in September 2018 to implement this idea, our partnership was solidified and the launch of Get Hooked became our testing ground for building a peer-to-peer network for CSFs. Get Hooked is proud to be a founding member of the Powered by Real Good Fish network.

Over the next 3 years, thanks to the USDA funding, Get Hooked will expand our seafood delivery to local schools using Real Good Fish’s Bay2Tray school lunch program, starting with Santa Barbara Unified School District. We hope to further expand to similar community-based food service programs to bring access and education on the benefits of local seafood to all members of our community.
